Who is he leads out the Lion to prey?

Monday 18. November, 1583
mane hora 9.
at Lubeck

Kelly - There appears the cloud, wherein the sword remains enclosed.

Dee - O Lord, be merciful unto us, and rigorously execute not thy justice upon us, thy weaklings, nor suffer Satan to triumph where thy glory is expected, &c.

Converte nos Deus salutaris noster, et averte iram tuam a nobis, &c.

Kelly - Now comes one in a white coat, not perfectly to be seen, but as he were seen through a cypress.

A Voice - Who is he leads out the lion to prey? or who is he lifts up the feet of the young ones to devour? Who feeds the smell of the roaring bear, or has taught him to remember the place of his recreation? Has he also taught the fields to put forth their voices, and the mighty trees to flourish in pride?
Are not the hills glad when they bring forth corn? When the valleys rejoice with threefold waters?

The beasts of the wilderness, have they not known caves? And to such as are made tame, is there not a ( . . . ) understanding? For who is he who teaches them to make subject themselves, who are ravening, or to bridle such of their frowardness? Even he who looks down from Heaven and beholds the Earth, and measures it with his feet, saying

It is done.

Who enters also into the houses of men, and listens to what they call wonders. Who opens the gates of his knowledge with a finger, and says to you, How become ye wise? or whence your understanding? Are your hearts become caves to send forth thunder? or are your spirits vexed by holiness? Are you not a stiff-necked people, to be despised? Are you not poor, and so hated? Since you are bastards, who teaches your lips to speak of my Church? or taught you to urge my own spirit?

Behold, I am mighty!

For I am the joy of the faithful. For I am called Temple of the Holy, and Beauty of Israel. The spirit of man cries out and pierces to the Lord swift as an arrow, and he hears. Thus the Wind of Cabon opens her mouth, and swears by the jaspar pillar standing in the Temple of Reconciliation. It thunders, and it is said

Be it done.

And hehold the doors open, and the holy altar covered. Many-footed beasts bring up burnt offerings, and the sacrifice ascends and is a mighty wind such as has not been since the beginning of days. Open your ears, therefore, and prepare to hear, for this ( . . . ) is mighty, for it is from peace. My justice - saith the Lord - is sealed, and you have sinned greatly; my arm is stretched forth, I must be magnified, for vengeance goes forth, and already appears.

But who resists the venom of the earth, or instructs man to avoid the darts of poison? He saith to you, Thus it is, for I have sanctified you, and have made you holy on earth. Therefore, I will help you, but not as you desire, for your prayers and unrighteous life shall become bands of yarn, and I will make a contention between Satan and you. If you labour hard, and open fervent minds such as are not of this world, and can bind this sword and cloud of vengeance fast among you; be it so, for it is your own righteousness Satan has reviled, and said

Then shall thou see.

But so long as they are holy and righteous, they are safe; but when they fall, Satan enters. For the power of righteousness is a conqueror if it fight mightily, and Satan be confounded by righteous judgement.

For I have decreed it, and by myself swear it.

I will be a righteous judge bewteen you, so take heed you sin not, nor go to death, for great is the fall of vengeance. Be not defiled by the filthiness of the wicked, nor delight in such as counterfeit truth, for I am a fire judging all things, and I delight in people who are joyful with one banquetting; those who fill their bellies in a stranger's home are enemies to me.

For I have said.

My spirit is holy and my anointed righteous. Let the earth rise up and continue in her wickedness, yea, let them say, We know the anointed; but my countenance is truth, and they are liars. My spirit works, and behold there are wonders in the sight of men, and wheresoever I dwell, such is my power. Be therefore of one house, that you may eat together, lest you banquet too much and so become deceivers. I am one and am known by one and unto one I am married to - and I am merciful; whosoever abides not therein is an adulterer. Avoid you darkness, for righteousness is present and spirit enters.

Blessed are such as believe. Amen.

Kelly - He is gone. There appears some bands linked together like chains around the cloud.

Dee - Welcome be these bands.

Kelly - He is here again (. . . ) and says

A Voice - Why are you so dull? Why are you yet ignorant? See thou these ( . . . )

Kelly - He points and speaks to me

I see them, I thank God.

A Voice - These bonds are your own righteousness; they appear before the Lord, and shall bind vengeance. But if you weaken, you fall. Pray you fall not, for they are the days of sorrow.

The Spirit of God is twofold, Jag Agian and Nah Gassapalan; therefore, take heed, for in the first you are blessed, and it may return, but who is filled with the second shall be drunken forever. The first is power and a comfort immeasurable, glorifying and strengthening all things agreeable to it; but when they differ, it returns. The other is the spirit of the first and the second, almighty and everlasting, unmeasureable an dinexplicable, drowning the will of man who becomes strong in the fountain of gladness and understanding, true wisdom herself, and not returning.

Pray, therefore, you may be perfect, and that you may be seasoned, for it is salt savoured til the end.

Kelly - He cast off his cloudy lawn, and gone. He seemed to be Raphael.

Dee - Yet we beseech you more expressly and particularly to deal with us, &c.

A Voice - It is said. It is written, It is true. Cease.

Dee - Gloria, laus, honor, triumphus et jubilation sit Deo nostro omnipotenti, nunc et semper. Amen.

The field of olives opens and closes like a fan. Above the grove the sky is sunk the rain is dark the stars are cold.  A trembling in the rushes and darkness falls on the riverbank. A ripple through the grey air.  Olive trees laden with screams. A flock  of captive birds move their long, long tails in the shadows.  FGL (1931) PSY (Feb. 2025)
